At 49 and speeding towards the aged of 50, I though it about time I had some check-ups on my health.
Today I received the results of some blood tests conducted a few weeks ago (normally I'd know sooner but I'd forgotten all about it until today).
Bladder fine, prostate fine, cholesterol 2 which is normal. Blood pressure 120/80, also normal. And at 70kg's I must be the envy of every half centenarian.
Talking of getting on, I've re-written my web-site's About page to reflect my life through the ages from 0 to 49.
A few little and previously untold secrets are revealed. It makes great reading for any long time stalker's out there.

With the new year, most of us make resolutions we can't keep or forget about as soon as the celebration hangover has cleared. I started mine this week.
I usually do an hours walk in the morning, collecting my mail from the post office on the way. But lately I've noticed my knees are playing up again. This is mainly due to the lack of muscular condition in my legs. To take the pressure off my knees I need to strengthen my leg muscles.
I've dusted off the mountain bike that's spent the past two years in the shed. I've had two rides around the neighbourhood this week, short in duration (about 30 minutes). They'll will get longer as my legs get stronger.

Don't you just hate it when one of your favourite consumer products is discontinued?
It happens to me quite often. This time it's my moisturiser. Yes folks, I use moisturiser (anyway it's not the first time I've admitted to it).
The people at Nivea For Men have ditched the best facial lotion on the market - "Moisturising Lotion SPF15" and now I have to choose between what I consider three inferior products - "Moisturiser Sensitive" or "Rehydrating Moisturiser Lotion SPF15" or "Active Firming Moisturiser"
My skin doesn't need rehydrating or firming so I might have to settle for the "sensitive".
What product will be next to vanish of the shopping shelves?

As a condition we were going to Greece next year, Tony decided we'd both have to get ourselves 'fixed', so to speak. By that I mean snoring prevention. Tony says I'm a bad snorer, and I think the same of him. So, to remedy the problem we've both been to our G.P.'s and had referrals etc. I went to an ear nose and throat surgeon while Tony's doctor referred him to a sleep specialist.
My first consultation involved an Endoscopy, basically just an initial examination of the nose and throat. Then there was day surgery where I had a Bronchoscopy, basically this is a more thorough examination done under general anaesthetic, where I'm asleep and snoring so the surgeon can work out exactly what needs to be operated on. Then there was a second consultation to discuss my options and arrange the surgery. Then there's the actual surgery performing two procedures at the same time; a Tongue Base Reduction and a Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) which involves the removal of the Uvula.
That operation was Tuesday last week. The reduction of the tongue base wasn't painful at all, but the UPPP has left me with painful soluble stitches at the back of the throat. I've been on painkillers since and returned to solid foods yesterday. I have one more post-op consultation in a few weeks.
In Tony's case, he's having a Mandibular Advancement Splint, a kind of special anti-snore mouthguard, which forces the jaw bone forward, opening the back of the throat while asleep.

I have the next two weeks off for some well deserved leave. So with plenty of time on my hands, it was opportunic during a web surfing session that I found a site for men to develope a technique for having multiple orgasms. It states the level of difficulty as 'average' and to allow one hour for the exercise (or should that be sexercise).
This should be fun. ;)

My hay fever is still driving me crazy. There's house work to be done that I've put on hold in case I stir up dust. There's grass to be mowed and schrubs to prune, but don't want to disturb the pollen. I'm usually over this silly fever by the end of the first week of January. It's now Australia Day and I can't remember having it stay on so long.

A common herb may be related to those times when you can't get it up. A report suggests licorice may be the culprit. I'm not a great licorice eater (just as well!). I'm definately stay away from it now. :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again....
EJACULATE EJACULATE EJACULATE
There's been more research and proof that frequent ejaculation reduces the risk of prostate cancer.
Now I'm up for that!

Danish Sperm Donors are reported to be among the top sperm donors in the world.
They're paid (mostly students) $40.50 for each donation.
Jeepers, I'm moving to Denmark. By the number of times I drop my pants each day, I'd be rich and retiring by the end of the month!

I've been reading up on how to keep sperm healthy. Seems I'm doing the right thing in most areas, except for when it came to excessive ejaculation. I'll have to go from being a twice a day guy to 2 - 3 times a week. Oh man! I have withdrawal symptoms already!!!

Wil Wheaton has the answer to my problems. His Mom sent in some advice to help "promote greater mental calm within yourself". Take a news fast.
As a tv news video-editor, I get a double dose of stress five days a week, there's no escaping it. I know that it's why I really look forward to taking annual leave.
A few years ago I backpacked through Europe for 10 weeks. No newspapers (most of which weren't in English so there was no point buying them) and no tv. Looking back on it now - at the time I hadn't felt so at ease in years. Damn, that was a good trip.

Still on the health kick... A study of over 31,000 men age 50 to 90 showed that regular exercise - three to five hours a week - reduced incidence of erectile dysfunction by 30%.
Hmm. I have quite a few years to go yet. I'd better start early, just to be sure.
... and no, I'm not putting up a picture of anything erectile! ;)
